Important test results
If you already have recent test results, please bring them along. If you do not have any results yet, that is no problem at all: together we will determine exactly which values we need for your successful fertility treatment and support you in arranging the appointments. Here is an overview of the most important values:
Test results for the woman
- Hormone status: FSH, LH, estradiol, prolactin, testosterone, progesterone, TSH, TPO antibodies, AMH
- Vitamins: 25-OH vitamin D
- Antibody testing: rubella-specific IgG antibodies, VZV IgG antibodies
- Blood clotting: APC resistance
- Blood group determination
- Smears: Pap test

- Blood test
- Semen analysis: a recent semen analysis according to WHO 2010 criteria. For IVF Fund patients, two semen analyses are required, no older than two years.
Optimal preparation
The causes of an unfulfilled wish for a child are highly varied. So that we at the Wunschbaby Institut Feichtinger can quickly diagnose your individual causes and develop the best possible treatment method, we will discuss with you, among other things, the following questions – feel free to prepare for them in advance.
Questions for the woman
- Have you ever had any conditions affecting the genital area?
- Have you had abdominal surgery?
- Do you suffer from a chronic condition (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid dysfunction, rheumatism)?
- Have you had radiation therapy or chemotherapy?
- Have you used the pill or an IUD for contraception? Which one? For how long? How well did you tolerate it?
- How long have you been with your partner?
- How long have you been trying for a child in this relationship? Did you try for a child in a previous relationship?
- Have you already undergone any fertility treatments? Which ones?
- Has the patency of your fallopian tubes been checked?
- At what age did your periods begin?
- How many days apart are your periods? How long do they last?
- How do you feel during your period?
- Have you ever been pregnant? When and with what outcome (births, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy)?
Questions for the man
- Have you ever had a condition or surgery affecting the genital area (undescended testicle, inguinal hernia, varicocele)?
- Did your testicles temporarily “disappear into the abdomen” in childhood (undescended or retractile testicles)?
- Did you have mumps after puberty?
- Is there cystic fibrosis in your family?
- Have you had radiation therapy or chemotherapy?
- Do you have any previous semen analyses?
- Do you have a urological examination report?
- Do you have any medical or surgical reports or histological findings?

The story of the Wunschbaby Institut Feichtinger dates back to the early 1980s, when Prof. Wilfried Feichtinger began his research in this field at Vienna General Hospital (AKH). In 1982, the birth of the first “test-tube baby” in Austria was celebrated there – one of the first children worldwide to be born this way. The Wunschbaby Institut was founded in 1983. Since then, we have been regarded as pioneers and one of the leading clinics worldwide. More than 10,000 children have been born with our help since.

What happens during the first consultation?
In a detailed first consultation we discuss both partners' situation, take your medical history, perform an ultrasound and develop your individual treatment plan – in most cases it is ready after the first appointment.
How much time should we allow?
We take a full hour for you – for your story, all examinations and your questions.
What should we bring to the first consultation?
Please bring all existing test results for both partners – for the woman e.g. hormone results, for the man a semen analysis, if available. You will find a checklist of important results on this page; missing examinations can also be done directly at our institute.
Does my partner have to come along?
Ideally you come together: the causes of unfulfilled desire to have children lie roughly one third with the woman, one third with the man and one third with both – so we always look at both partners' situation.
