More legal options
Egg donation has been legally permitted in Austria since 2015 – in Germany it is not permitted under the Embryo Protection Act (as of 2026). Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is also clearly regulated in Austria.
More and more couples from Germany fulfil their wish for a child in Vienna: egg donation has been legally permitted in Austria since 2015, the journey is short, and at the Wunschbaby Institut Feichtinger you are accompanied by the pioneer of reproductive medicine in Austria – in German or English, personally, and with just a few well-planned stays in Vienna.
"We come from Germany – can we undergo treatment at your institute?" We receive this question regularly, and the answer is simple: yes, of course we also treat couples from Germany. No visa, no language barrier, the same currency – and a clear legal framework that opens up more treatment options than in Germany.
The most frequent reason for coming to Vienna is egg donation: it has been legally permitted in Austria since 2015, whereas in Germany it is not permitted under the Embryo Protection Act (Embryonenschutzgesetz) (as of 2026). But many German couples also deliberately choose an institute with more than 40 years of experience for IVF, ICSI and genetic diagnostics.

For many couples from Germany, the legal situation is the decisive reason for treatment in Austria: in Germany, egg donation is not permitted under the Embryo Protection Act (Embryonenschutzgesetz) (as of 2026). With the amendment to the Reproductive Medicine Act, egg donation has been permitted in Austria since 2015. The legal framework is clearly defined:
As of 2026. Legal requirements and their practical implementation continue to evolve; in the consultation we clarify the details for your personal situation. You can find more in-depth information on our pages about egg donation and the legal framework.
We plan your treatment so that you manage with just a few well-prepared stays in Vienna – and are closely accompanied by us in between.
The easiest way to start is our free fertility info evening with a personal orientation talk – online or on site. This lets you clarify your first questions without travelling. You can send us any existing findings in advance.
The in-depth first consultation takes place on site and usually lasts a full hour: medical history, counselling, gynaecological examination with ultrasound, initiation of the preliminary examinations and therapy planning – in German or English, as you prefer.
We align your treatment plan with your travel arrangements and bundle examinations and appointments wherever it is medically sensible. We coordinate follow-up appointments closely with you – at every step you know when your presence in Vienna is needed.
During the preparation phase we stay in ongoing contact. Where medically possible, we coordinate individual check-ups with your gynaecologist in Germany – we define the details together in your treatment plan.
The central treatment steps – such as egg retrieval or embryo transfer – take place at our institute in Vienna. The embryo transfer takes only a few minutes and requires no anaesthesia; we tell you in advance how many days you should plan for.
After the transfer, we accompany you through the hormonal support and the pregnancy test and remain available for you. An established pregnancy is then looked after by your gynaecologist at home – like any other pregnancy.
Our main institute is located at Lainzer Straße 6, 1130 Vienna, in the green district of Hietzing near Schönbrunn Palace. From Vienna International Airport you can reach us by public transport with the City Airport Train (CAT) and underground line U4 to Hietzing station; Vienna is also well connected by train from many German cities.
You can find all the details on getting here, parking and public transport on our page How to find us.

Yes, of course we also treat couples from Germany – from the initial work-up to IVF and ICSI through to egg donation. Treatment is available in German or English, and we plan the appointments so that they fit in well with your travel.
In Austria, egg donation has been legally permitted since 2015. It is subject to conditions: the recipient must not yet have completed her 45th year of age at the start of treatment, eggs may only be retrieved from the donor's completed 18th to her completed 30th year of age, and treatment is possible within a marriage, registered partnership or cohabiting relationship (as of 2026). In Germany, egg donation is not permitted under the Embryo Protection Act (Embryonenschutzgesetz) (as of 2026). We clarify the details in the consultation.

That depends on the treatment and cannot be stated in general terms. In the first consultation you receive a concrete plan with all the required visits.
Whether and to what extent German statutory or private health insurers cover the costs of treatment abroad varies from case to case. Please clarify this in advance directly with your insurer. We discuss the costs of your treatment with us transparently before treatment begins.
The IVF Fund is tied to legal requirements – among others, citizenship, insurance and residence requirements in Austria. For couples who live and are insured in Germany, treatment is therefore generally billed privately. We are happy to check whether the fund is an option in your case; our costs page provides an overview of the requirements.
Yes, please bring any existing findings – such as hormone levels, semen analyses or reports from previous treatments – to the first consultation, or send them to us in advance. This makes the consultation more concrete. Your records do not have to be complete, however: we determine together which examinations are still needed.
