The fallopian tubes are the path on which egg and sperm cell find each other – if they are blocked, a natural pregnancy often fails to occur, entirely without noticeable symptoms. With a gentle ultrasound examination (HyCoSy), tubal patency can be checked directly at our institute.

Fibroids are benign muscle nodules of the uterus, ovarian cysts usually harmless fluid-filled sacs. Whether they affect fertility depends above all on their position and size – many need no treatment at all. A simple ultrasound examination provides clarity.

In endometriosis, tissue of the uterine lining is found outside the uterus – for example on the peritoneum, the ovaries or the fallopian tubes. It is one of the most common causes of an unfulfilled wish for a child and can be clarified and treated in a targeted way.

PMOS – Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, formerly PCOS – is the most common hormonal disorder in young women. It can disturb egg maturation and ovulation and thus delay the wish for a child. The good news: it can be clarified and treated well.

Chemotherapy or radiotherapy can impair fertility – which makes it all the more important to think about fertility preservation before treatment begins. Eggs, sperm or testicular tissue can often be frozen at our institute even at short notice, with rapid appointments for cancer patients.

The uterus is where the embryo implants – a well built-up uterine lining is decisive for this. Malformations, adhesions, polyps or a thin lining can be clarified by ultrasound and hysteroscopy and, in many cases, treated well.

Silent infections – above all chlamydia – often go unnoticed for years, but can block the fallopian tubes. Swabs and blood tests provide clarity; treatment is usually with antibiotics, together with the partner.

For a large proportion of couples wishing to have a child, a reduced semen result is a factor in unwanted childlessness. The semen analysis shows the number, motility and shape of the sperm – the basis for targeted treatment.
