FERTIFATE MALE.
Genetic factors can be identified in up to 25 % of all cases of male infertility – and can decisively influence the course of fertility treatment.
The most common genetic causes in men.
In around 70 % of couples wishing to have children, a reduced semen result is a factor in involuntary childlessness. The causes of male infertility are varied: alongside lifestyle and diet, genetic factors can also decisively influence semen quality.
With the FERTIFATE MALE test we analyse the two most common genetic causes of male infertility. First, a karyotype is produced, which can detect changes in the chromosomes. Around 15 % of all men with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia show chromosomal anomalies.
Second, losses of certain genetic regions on the Y chromosome can also be responsible for male infertility. These regions are known as the AZF region (azoospermia factor) and are essential for spermatogenesis. In the second part of the test we analyse these AZF regions, which are found to be the cause in up to 10 % of all patients with azoospermia.
Benefits
By analysing the most common genetic causes of male infertility, affected men not only learn the reasons for their reduced semen quality – they can also decide individually with their doctor what consequences the findings have for their wish to have children.
In the case of chromosomal changes, for example, preimplantation genetic testing can be performed during assisted reproduction in order to select genetically unremarkable embryos. In the case of losses of individual AZF regions, sperm cells can in some circumstances be retrieved by testicular sperm extraction; the chances can be assessed individually depending on the type of loss. In this way the chances of a successful pregnancy can be significantly increased.
Indication
We recommend the FERTIFATE MALE analysis to all men with a severely reduced semen analysis result as well as in cases of male infertility without an apparent cause.
Four steps to your results.
The examination takes around two to three weeks from the blood draw to the final report.
Blood sample
A simple blood draw forms the basis of the analysis.
DNA analysis
In the genetics laboratory, the karyotype and the AZF regions of the Y chromosome are examined.
Results report
The results are carefully evaluated and documented.
