The Wunschbaby Institut Feichtinger is the IVF institute with the longest history in Austria: in 1982, Prof. Wilfried Feichtinger accompanied the birth of the country's first IVF baby, and in 1983 he founded the institute. State of the art
Our laboratory: the heart of the institute.
A large part of the success of any treatment is decided in the IVF laboratory. Our embryologists work with state-of-the-art incubators and microscopes, gentle culture techniques and the cryopreservation technology that was co-developed at our institute in 1991 and is in use worldwide today.
Added to this is something only few IVF clinics offer: an in-house genetics laboratory – Austria's first preimplantation genetic diagnosis succeeded here in 2005, followed in 2015 by the world's first PGD on the culture medium.

IVF clinic: what you should know before choosing.
How do I recognise a good IVF clinic?
Look for experience and transparency: how long has the institute existed, how thorough is the first consultation, do you get dedicated contact persons? An in-house laboratory (IVF, hormones, ideally genetics) shortens distances and improves coordination. And: read real patient stories.
What does IVF treatment cost in Austria?
If the requirements are met (including a medical indication, the woman under 40, the man under 50), the IVF Fund covers around 70 percent of the costs – the WIF has been a contract institute since 2000. How many IVF attempts are usual?
Do I need a referral for an IVF clinic?
No. You can contact us directly – the easiest, no-obligation way is the free info evening. Previous results from your gynaecologist or urologist are helpful, but not a requirement.
How long does an IVF treatment take from start to finish?
One treatment cycle usually takes around four to six weeks – from hormonal stimulation through egg retrieval to embryo transfer and pregnancy test. The preparatory phase with work-up and planning takes place once beforehand. IVF in 10 steps explains the details.
