FERTIFATE THROMBO.

Detecting genetic risk factors for hereditary thrombophilia and altered folic acid metabolism – important factors in recurrent miscarriage and implantation failure.

Overview

Analysing hereditary risk factors.

The FERTIFATE THROMBO test analyses genetic variants for hereditary thrombophilia or altered folic acid metabolism, which represent risk factors for recurrent miscarriage or implantation failure.

Recurrent miscarriages and failed IVF attempts can have many causes – including hereditary changes in the woman’s genetic material. International studies have shown that hereditary thrombophilia (an increased likelihood of venous thrombosis) and altered folic acid metabolism are associated with recurrent miscarriage and failed IVF attempts (study 1, study 2, study 3, study 4).

With our coagulation diagnostics at the Wunschbaby Institut Feichtinger we analyse the four most important genetic risk factors: factor V Leiden, factor II 20210, MTHFR 677 and MTHFR 1298.

Benefits

Genetic thrombophilia testing can identify an increased likelihood of miscarriage, repeated failed IVF attempts or recurrent implantation failure. In the event of a positive result, thrombosis prophylaxis or taking folic acid may be advisable. This is discussed individually with the treating doctor.

The test can also identify an increased likelihood of venous thrombosis. In this case we advise additionally consulting a coagulation specialist.

Indication

We recommend our thrombophilia screening to all women wishing to have children who have one of the following histories:

  • an unfulfilled desire to have children for more than a year
  • several previous miscarriages
  • several failed IVF attempts
  • a known thrombosis risk or coagulation disorders in the family
Workflow

Four steps to your results.

The examination takes around two to three weeks from the blood draw to the final report.

01

Blood sample

A simple blood draw forms the basis of the analysis.

02

DNA analysis

In the genetics laboratory, the four most important genetic risk factors are examined.

03

Results report

The results are carefully evaluated and documented.

04

Results consultation

Together we discuss the findings and possible next steps.
